Laser Tattoo Removal

Nearly 30% of people in the U.S. have at least one tattoo. Almost half of all millennials have one. But not all of them are happy about their decision. As many as 25% of those with a tattoo say they regret getting it.
Considering Laser Tattoo Removal?

If you’re in that 25%, there is good news. Laser tattoo removal techniques can get rid of your unwanted tattoo with minimal side effects.

How It Works

Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest color to treat. Other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color.

How It Works

You should first schedule a consultation with a trained professional who can evaluate your tattoo and advise you on the process. Schedule your consultation Now.

The number of treatments you will need will depend on the age, size, and color(s) of your tattoo. The color of your skin, as well as how deep the tattoo pigment goes, will also affect the removal technique.

Laser tattoo removal is uncomfortable, but most patients don’t need anesthesia. Depending on the location of your tattoo, you may want to apply a topical anesthesia cream beforehand.

Immediately following the treatment, use an ice pack to soothe the treated area. And apply an antibiotic cream or ointment and bandage to protect it. You should also be sure it’s covered with sunblock when you’re outside.

Side Effects

Laser treatment is often safer than many other tattoo removal methods, such as excision, dermabrasion, or salabrasion because laser treatment selectively treats the pigment in the tattoo. And there are very few side effects. However, you should consider these factors in your decision:

FAQs / Questions

Q1. What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

When you decide to remove your tattoo, laser tattoo removal works to break up pigment for permanent removal of the ink. During your tattoo session, your artist slowly inputs pigment one bit at a time. With laser treatments the process is essentially reversed as laser energy works to slowly break up and release the pigment from the skin. With each treatment your tattoo will slowly fade away. After a course of treatments, your tattoo will be virtually unnoticeable, without harm to your skin.

Q2. Should I be concerned about scarring?

No. One of the beauties of modern laser technology is that while it is more powerful than any other tattoo removal procedure, it operates at such high speeds that it can target the ink molecules and break it apart without heating up or damaging the skin, which can lead to scaring with less-advanced services.

Q2.Why is 3 wavelengths important?

It gives the ability to remove tattoo colors from across the spectrum. Most lasers operate at only a single wavelength, making it hard to ‘see’ colors that fall outside of that wavelength and therefore not optimal for removing certain colors of tattoos or working on certain skin tones. PicoWay 3-Wavelength technology operates at 532nm, 785nm, and 1064 nm respectively, covering all the colors in the rainbow.

Q3. Will my tattoo be completely removed?

Most tattoos can be entirely removed using our array of lasers. Based on the specific characteristics of your tattoo, our laser professionals will be open with you about what level of removal is most likely to be possible for your tattoo.

Q4. What should I expect when I make an appointment?

Every patient receives a personalized plan with the clinical care a medical procedure requires. Our professionally trained staff will be your guides, leading you through a process that is far easier than you may expect. We provide absolutely clear expectations. Before we begin, you will know how it works and what you can expect.

Q5. Is laser tattoo removal painful?

Some compare our tattoo removal to having a tattoo applied, but for a much, much shorter period of time. It’s like being on the receiving end of a rubber band snap. Keeping pain to a minimum is very important to us at Invisible Ink. That’s why, in addition to advanced Pico Laser technology, we use a topical anesthetic cream and specialized cooling system to numb the skin.

Q6. How long until my tattoo is gone?

Using our advanced Laser technology, most tattoos are removed in as few as 10 visits, with sessions scheduled eight weeks apart. Invisible Ink laser professionals will take great care in establishing your personalized treatment plan and expectations based on the specific characteristics of your skin and your tattoo.

Q7. How long is each tattoo removal session?

On average, a session takes a few minutes to complete, depending on the complexity and size of your tattoo. We’re committed to having you in and out of the center before you know it!

Q8. How does laser tattoo removal work?

The laser delivers extremely short pulses of light energy into the treatment area. Beneath the skin, the ink selectively absorbs the light without destroying the surrounding normal tissue. After absorbing the light, the ink shatters into exceedingly small particles that are harmlessly cleared by your body’s natural immune system in the weeks following the session.

Q9. Does it matter where my tattoo is located on my body?

Where the tattoo is located on your body, and how much ink is present, does have an effect. The further away from your heart and the denser the ink, the longer it will take to remove the tattoo. For example, a tattoo on a foot can take significantly more sessions to remove than the same size and color tattoo on the chest. This is due to the fact that the blood circulation is much better closer to the heart than in your foot (the same reason your feet get colder quicker than the rest of your body). The less circulation present to carry away the ink, the longer it will take to remove the tattoo.
